Meet Sonam - Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Specialist
We love hearing how passionate our graduates of our Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Course are!
It's time to meet Sonam, dedicated to helping pregnant women and new mothers stay active:
What is your current profession, and where are you based?
I am a personal trainer and group fitness instructor based in Melbourne. I teach HIIT style classes, cardio, strength, boxing at Anytime Fitness, Fernwood, Crunch.
I have also worked at many small businesses where I offered personal training sessions and group fitness sessions. I have cert III and IV in fitness, diploma in weight management, Certification in prenatal and postnatal exercise, and I am currently studying prenatal yoga.
Why is helping pregnant and postpartum women so important to you?
Pregnancy and postpartum are unique and challenging times when many women want to stay fit but may feel uncertain about how to exercise safely.
There’s often confusion about what exercises are safe, what should be avoided, and how to balance fitness with the physical and mental changes during this period.
I want to make exercising easier, safer, and more enjoyable for pregnant and new moms by lifting that extra burden for them and supporting them in their health journey.
What did you enjoy most about the PregActive Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Course?
I enjoyed everything about this course, especially how naturally it flows. The exercises and guidance were incredibly helpful during my own pregnancy, preparing me both mentally and physically for delivery and postpartum recovery.
What do you plan to do now that you are a Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Specialist?
I plan to support all pregnant and new moms by helping them exercise safely and confidently. There’s already so much to focus on during pregnancy and postpartum, and I hope to lift some of the uncertainty around fitness while making exercise fun and accessible for them.
What would you say to a newly pregnant mama-to-be who is nervous about starting exercise?
Don’t be! Once you start, it’s easier than you may think. Take all the support and guidance you need, and remember that you only need to focus on keeping yourself and your baby safe and healthy. Trust the journey.
What supportive words would you say to a new postpartum mother to help her get started with her exercise?
Take the time you need to ease back into exercising. Your body has just undergone a monumental journey, so it’s okay to give yourself grace and go at your own pace.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
Pregnancy and postpartum can be both beautiful and overwhelming, and having the right support can make a huge difference. Whether it's family, friends, or a fitness community, know that you don’t have to go through this alone. Your health matters, and every step you take for yourself benefits both you and your little one.
