Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Expert Meet Miranda

I personally started helping pregnant women and new mothers 10 years before I became pregnant myself, which is why I am so passionate about helping health and fitness professionals do the same!

Miranda reminds me of myself, passionate about what she does and a full vision of what's ahead of her and how she will help women through this journey of pregnancy and motherhood.

What is your current profession and where are you based?

I am currently finishing my fourth and final year in a double Bachelor degree of Exercise/Nutrition Science at Deakin University. I am currently working at Kieser which is a gym where the Exercise Science team and Physiotherapist's work closely together to help people become stronger through applied research practices and an individualised strength program tailored to an individual's needs. Upon graduating in October I am to grow my personal branding 'fuel your flourish', with big intentions to make a big difference in the world of women's health. I want nothing more but to positively contribute to women's lives and empower them with education on nutrition and exercise and how important it is for our bodies! I am based in Mount Martha on the Mornington Peninsula.

Why is helping pregnant and postpartum women so important to you?

As pregnancy is such a massive physiological change in the body, I believe, through applied scientifically backed advice, I can make a big difference in ensuring women get the very best support possible. The body is extremely complex and it is important to have the deeper knowledge on the physiology occurring during pregnancy and to apply safe exercise practise to the needs of pregnant women both during the trimester and postpartum, this is what I endeavour to educate women to support them through such an incredible stage of their life and ensure the health of the baby and Mother of course is the best it can be! Knowing how to help pregnant and postpartum women specifically through expansion of my current knowledge is critical to be able to better contribute to the women's health space!

What did you enjoy most about the PregActive Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Course?

The Pregactive Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Course is a really detailed structure which allows you to feel confident with all that is learnt, I really enjoyed this and enjoyed the amount of exercises for different stages of the pregnancy, it was a highly engaging and interactive course!

What do you plan to do now you are a Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Specialist?

I plan to dig deeper into this whole space of Pregnancy and Postpartum; you can always learn more! I plan to pair my exercise science knowledge with my nutrition science knowledge and tailor it to pregnancy specifically so that I can bring the best of both worlds in the work I continue to do in future with women's health!

What would you say to a newly pregnant Mama-to-be who is nervous about starting exercise?

I would assure her that exercise is safe and very beneficial for her pregnancy for her health and the baby's health and this is supported by research. AS LONG as a recommendation from a qualified professional is taken seriously. The most important word of advice would be to always listen to your body, if it is signaling you to rest then it is important to listen.

What supportive words would you say to a new postpartum Mother to help her get started with her exercise?

Trust your body as it is capable of amazing things! Movement will truly nourish you and make your pregnancy a more enjoyable experience. It is just as important to listen to your body during this time as much as it is to remain active during this change of life.

Is there anything else you would like to add?

I have a very strong drive and passion in me to make a difference in people's lives. I studied a double degree in Nutrition and Exercise science as I really believe it is the key to preventive measures of potential health implications and you truly can't have one without the other both working so collectively together. Pregnancy and postpartum is such an exciting field to be able to contribute to! I am very excited to expand myself further, learn more and be a part of this amazing journey with incredible women! I post educational content on my Instagram business platform, this includes meal prep of recipe's I create based on my knowledge. Would appreciate any support 🤍
