Meet Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Instructor Luke

As a female fitness expert who trains pregnant women and new mothers, it's often assumed that you have had kids.

When I became pregnant with my firstborn, I had already had over 10 years training pregnant women and new mothers in prenatal specific group sessions and one-on-one personal training.

Some women just assumed I had kids already. Once they realised I didn't, nothing changed. They still came to my classes and raved about how good they felt after.

I didn't need to be pregnant to help pregnant women.

You just have to have an understanding and level of empathy and communication to assist THEM through THEIR journey. Not a stock standard, "you're pregnant so I'll modify these few moves for you" type of training.

This is what our graduates of our PregActive Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Course are learning. This is what is making them the go-to trainers for pregnant women and new mothers.

I love nothing more when the men in our course rave about how good it was and how excited they are to make the changes to help their pregnant and postpartum clients.

That enthusiasm and passion is felt through what Luke has to say.

Here is your change to meet one of our amazing Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Specialists, Luke:

"I am currently working as a group fitness instructor and personal trainer at Goodlife Health Clubs Richlands, QLD. I’ve got big dreams to run my own show one day!

My mother is a huge inspiration to myself and many other people. She also works at the same gym facility and has been a fitness instructor since before I was born. At the time of her pregnancy she was actively instructing and participating in multiple classes a week with me in her tummy, all the way up till the 37th week of her pregnancy!

I also have two older sisters that both have 2-3 children, so I have been blessed with some amazing and powerful female role models in my life. I hope to elevate my clients in a similar light with strength and resistance training to help them on their journeys into motherhood.

Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Course

The PregActive Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Course in its entirety is an absolute wealth of a resource to have. I have taken a lot away from it as far as exercise programming, core/pelvic stability, control and strength.

The one thing I personally enjoyed was diving into the idea of 'matrescence' and motherhood, getting a greater understanding of pregnancy beyond just the physiological changes of a woman's body. Being able to understand and empathise with my clients beyond the standpoint of pure exercise/fitness alone has really improved my ability to connect with them on a more personal level.

I intend to stay as a personal trainer for the time being. I am quite new to the industry and still have a lot to learn. But the knowledge and skills from this course have really enhanced the quality of the training and information that I can provide to my female clients that may be looking to start a family in future, or who are now returning to exercise after becoming a mother.

I wouldn't mind starting a group class for mums if I had enough people keen!

What would I say to a woman who is now pregnant?

Firstly congratulations! To yourself, your partner and to the beginning/extension of your family! The next 9 months and beyond are going to be a wonderful concoction of chaos and beauty (probably more on the chaotic side).

However, an appropriate exercise and resistance training routine is an amazing avenue to help strengthen your body and mind and help make this journey for you and your newborn comfortable and awe inspiring!

And to the newly postpartum Mother:

Exercise looks different for everyone, especially when we have two in the picture, but building strength now is one of the best ways to foster a great and complication free pregnancy.

I can attest that the mums I have seen that have partaken in exercise before and during their pregnancies have had far less complications, pain, and a much smoother recovery/transition back to activity and life postpartum.

To all the mothers out there who already are or are soon to be, the power is in your hands! I cannot endorse the benefits of exercise and resistance training enough; it is never too late to start making positive changes!"

And if only ever trainer in the entire world has this same outlook, awareness and connection as Luke. I'm so proud of him as he should be of himself (and I'm sure his mother and two sisters could not be prouder!).
