Meet Emma Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Specialist
Finding a pre / postnatal qualified fitness instructor can be really hard. We are so fortunate to have an abundance of great pregnancy and postpartum fitness instructors that have completed our Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Specialist Course.
I just love how passionate our graduates are, Emma included.
Read on as we interview Emma all about helping pregnant women and new Mothers stay healthy and active.
What is your current profession and where are you based?
Hi I'm Emma, I am a qualified Exercise and Sport Scientist and Pre & Postnatal fitness specialist. I'm based on the wonderful Sunshine Coast, Queensland… Noosa area to be exact.
Why is helping pregnant and postpartum women so important to you?
My career goal is to help as many women as possible stay physically active, strong and confident throughout all stages of life, which for many of us includes our pregnancy and postpartum journey.
There are so many moving parts and considerations throughout each trimester which can be confusing and stressful for women to navigate.
I'm well aware of the importance of exercise throughout pregnancy and postpartum and gain so much fulfilment out of coaching women during this stage of their life.
However, I think it's also extremely important to provide education, so that women have the knowledge and confidence to navigate this wonderful time. Only then can they truly embrace and enjoy their individual journey.
What did you enjoy most about the PregActive Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Course?
The PregActive Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Course was extremely educational and provided black and white examples of what you should - shouldn't prescribe throughout each trimester and why.
I really appreciate that you have access to the course content with the addition of pregnancy workouts and program for life. Shout out to the wonderful Kerryn, you are an inspiration.
What do you plan to do now you are a Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Specialist?
My small business, Emfitness, is a home workout app membership for women’s health. I provide home workouts and fitness programs suitable for all stages of life to help women feel strong and confident in the convenience of their own homes.
Now that I am a pre and postnatal fitness specialist I will be working on some fitness programs dedicated to women navigating these special times.
What would you say to a newly pregnant Mama-to-be who is nervous about starting exercise?
To all my new pregnant mamas-to-be who are nervous about starting exercise, this is totally normal. I would recommend finding a pregnancy fitness specialist who you feel comfortable and supported by.
They will be able to provide you safe and suitable exercises that will have you feeling you best throughout this wonderful journey.
What supportive words would you say to a new postpartum Mother to help her get started with her exercise?
Your body has just been through an incredibly demanding experience, from growing your beautiful baby to the delivery and now being a mother to a newborn.
Listen to your body, allow yourself some deserved rest, and start with some very light movement prior to your 6-week check-up. This could include walking around the house, trying to be horizontal more often and some occasional pelvic floor activation and release.
Once you've got the all clear from your medical practitioner to commence exercise, following a guided program with a postpartum fitness specialist will help you safely rebuild your strength.
Remember, listen to your body.
Is there anything else you would like to add?
It is such a dream connecting with women from around Australia and helping them navigate their fitness journeys. I feel inspired everyday from my Emfitness community.
