Meet Pre/Postnatal Exercise Graduate Maggie the Midwife
Sep 02, 2026
This is a fun story, because I met Maggie the Midwife in person at the Australian Fertility Summit. I was presenting there and we met in the back area and she literally said "Your Kerryn, I did your PregActive Pre/Postnatal Exercise Certification- - I loved it!"
You can see the video we took after our excitement of the moment. So special, it's moments like these that make this the most rewarding job ever! To now only help pregnant women and new mothers, but to train health and fitness professionals so that they can help pregnant women and new mothers!
1. What is your current profession and where are you based?
I'm a Registered Midwife and IVF & Fertility Midwife Specialist, based on the Gold Coast. I also create content as @maggiethemidwife and I'm certified in pre/postnatal fitness.
2. Why is helping pregnant and postpartum women so important to you?
I see it from both sides now, I've supported hundreds of women through fertility and pregnancy as a midwife, and I'm currently living it myself, pregnant with twins. There's so much conflicting and fear-based info out there, and women deserve real, evidence-based guidance instead of being told to just stop moving the second they see two lines.
3. What did you enjoy most about the PregActive Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Course?
Having the evidence behind what I was already doing instinctively as an athlete and a midwife, being able to combine clinical knowledge with practical, safe programming for pregnant and postpartum women, rather than generic advice.
4. What do you plan to do now you are a Pregnancy and Postpartum Exercise Specialist?
Keep sharing safe, realistic strength and fitness content through @maggiethemidwife especially for women who are already active and just want to know how to adapt, not stop. Being pregnant with twins myself right now means I get to show that in real time.
5. What would you say to a newly pregnant Mama-to-be who is nervous about starting exercise?
Start where you are, not where you think you should be. Walking, light strength work, and just moving your body daily all count. Your body is capable of more than fear tells you, but always check in with your care provider first, especially if anything feels off.
6. What supportive words would you say to a new postpartum Mother to help her get started with her exercise?
Be patient with your body, it grew and birthed a human, it doesn't need to "bounce back," it needs to rebuild. Start gentle, focus on your pelvic floor and core foundations first, and know that some days showing up is just a short walk. That still counts.
7. Is there anything else you would like to add?
Just that I'm really passionate about closing the gap between clinical guidance and real-life fitness for pregnant and postpartum women, there's so much fear and misinformation, and I'd love to be part of changing that narrative.
